The Slow Coach Approach

Nine essential aspects of leadership, in three movements.

Like a symphony, the Slow Coach Approach unfolds in three movements. Each approach stands alone, and together they compose a complete way of leading that lifts your Interpersonal Return On Investment, your IROI™.

I.

First Movement, PrioritiesAdagio · slow and smooth

Heartfelt Listening

Signature gesture: Authentic Attention

Listening as the ultimate skill and superpower. It allows space for imagination and new ideas. For good working relationships it's incredibly important for people to be able to express themselves and know they are deeply heard and understood. Not every conversation need be lengthy, but allowing time for heartfelt listening nourishes long-term working relationships.

"I listen carefully and kindly"

Powerful Communication

Signature gesture: Kind Control

How tone and tempo lead to creating good productive atmospheres in conversations and meetings. By slowing down and creating calm, you build relationship safety so people can express themselves openly. Communication becomes a tool for connection rather than just information transfer.

"People feel good around me and feel they can express themselves"

Intentional Wellbeing

Signature gesture: Confident Wellbeing

Managing stress by improving wellbeing for yourself and others. Through three practical pathways: connection (building genuine relationships), peace of mind (creating calm amid complexity), and care (the everyday acts that show people they matter). Wellbeing isn't the absence of stress; it's the presence of something better.

"I manage stress well and increase wellbeing through connection, peace of mind and care"
II.

Second Movement, ActionAllegro · brisk and lively

Good Questions

Signature gesture: Thoughtful Curiosity

Using questions to explore topics and shape helpful conversations. Clean questions open doors without imposing your own assumptions. By grading things on a scale of 1 to 10, checking in across head, heart and hands, and learning which questions genuinely transform thinking, you become a leader whose questions are worth sitting with.

"My questions are transformational"

Authentic Purpose

Signature gesture: Purposeful Manner

Uplifting the workplace by becoming more conscious of individual and organisational purposes. When purposes are clear and genuinely held, people bring their full energy. Purpose is not a mission statement on a wall; it is an ongoing, living exploration of why this work matters to you and the people around you.

"Purposes are clear"

Conscious Harmony

Signature gesture: Clear Direction

Creating harmony by noticing, understanding and reducing discord. Like a conductor hearing which instruments are out of tune, you learn to sense what is discordant in your team and within yourself, then work towards resolution. Discord has to keep being resolved; harmony is an ongoing practice, not a destination.

"Discord is resolved, and people know the score"
III.

Third Movement, UnderstandingAdagio · slow and steady

Multiple Perspectives

Signature gesture: Mental Versatility

Having the flexibility of mind to move beyond habitual perception and thought. Using imagination for understanding others, developing mental agility, and recognising that there is always more to see. The ability to see things from other points of view is an ongoing task, not a skill you master once.

"I can see things from other points of view"

Unique People

Signature gesture: Recognising Uniqueness

Relating to and bringing out the best in individual people. Judy explores personality through the lens of Earth, Air, Fire and Water, helping you see beyond roles to the real person. Respecting and supporting individuality means replacing the habit of dwelling on difficult dynamics with genuine curiosity about what makes each person distinctive.

"I respect and support individuality"

Welcome Advice

Signature gesture: Skilful Suggestion

Deciding if, when and how to offer advice so that it is truly welcome. There is a real art to giving helpful advice in such a way that someone can take it in positively. This approach explores the difference between advice and direction, and teaches you to make your suggestions land well rather than bounce off.

"My advice is well received"
